Ingredients
  

Sponge Cake
  • 1 loaf sponge cake store-bought or homemade
Custard
  • 2 cups custard prepared or instant
Fruit
  • 1 cup mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream whipped
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for sweetening
Sherry (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sherry for soaking the cake

Method
 

Prepare the Sponge Cake
  1. Cut the sponge cake into cubes and soak them in sherry if using.
Layer the Ingredients
  1. In a trifle dish, layer half of the soaked sponge cake cubes at the bottom.
  2. Spread half of the custard over the sponge cake.
  3. Add a layer of mixed berries on top of the custard.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining sponge cake, custard, and berries.
Top with Whipped Cream
  1. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  2. Spread the whipped cream over the top layer of berries.
Chill and Serve
  1. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
